Notes about the album
It was late 98 and we had just finished recording two songs at Mercy Studios when realized that we didn't have enough money to put out another full studio album. We really wanted to have another CD to give to our fans... but the funds were simply not there.

Luckily in early 99 an opportunity arose for us to record a live album at The Cabaret in Oldtown. We played two shows with Shaft, King Me and Bliss on Tap and recorded both nights live to ADAT. We chose the best songs from the two night and decided to release a LIVE album. Our friend Chuck from Colorado agreed to put out the CD on his label Not Bad Records and just like that we had a new album out!

Notes on the album:
This CD is basically the result of our efforts to put out another full studio album. In early 1998 we decided to record a few new tracks to release on various compilations. Those two recordings were SBF 2000 and Push On. We recorded those tracks at Anybody Listening with Jim Ismert.

Later in 98 we were approached by Travis and Chuck from the Rayguns to put out a split 7 inch or split CD. They bankrolled a trip back to Mercy Studios and we were able to meet back up with Robert Rebeck who helped record Freako Suave. The results from that session were Punchin Wall and Down By Spin. These tracks have been placed on numerous compilation CDs and have been used in several independent movies from the midwest.

In early 99 we were side tracked with the release of OPHIL LIVE and we basically put the four studio tracks on the shelf. Around this time our mp3 site was starting to grab a lot of traffic so in late 99 we made plans to release the four studio tracks and two tracks from the LIVE CD on mp3.com. The result is Attack of the Zipperless Devils!

Notes on the Album
So far in the history of OPHIL... recording this album is one of my most cherished memories. It was one of the original bands final hoorahs. We crashed in Lawrence for about 10 days recording this album. We stayed at a friends house officially... but our days started at 11:00 am and we would record will 3:00 am EVERY DAY! Months after this album was released the original line-up would start to shift.

This album is a perfect example of how much we had grown since the recording and release of Activtor. This recording featured myself (Alex) on vocals, Shane and Sol on guitar, Aaron on Bass, and Tube, Matt Lann, Hans Judd and Tim Wetterhus on horns.

Ophil - Activator - CD

ACTIVATOR IS SOLD OUT BUT...

You can download the entire album for free! Click on the FREE album link and download the entire album in a zip file. Or download one track at a time by accessing the track listing below.

Activator was essentially Ophil!'s demo CD recorded in October of 1995 and released in Feb. of 96. Actually the disc is a mix of two live tracks, six studio tracks and one track from a very rare demo TAPE.

Track Listing
1 - Well Groomed Man
2 - On My Toes
3 - Ska Yo Yo Live
4 - Fraidy Cat
5 - Skeez
6 - Shake Dat Ass
7 - Sharp Boy Franky
8 - If Doug Liked Ska
9 - Skank To This

Notes on the album
Our initial pressing sold out within the year. We then found out that there was overflow in stock at the pressing house and were offered an additional 300 copies of the CD without the artwork at a reduced cost. We release the second run with make-shift art work (xerox copies of a new cover).

My best estimate is that there are 500 copies of the album with the full color artwork and an additional 300 copies of the re-release with makeshift artwork.
