The new discography section will provide you a history of Ophil releases
as well as the opportunity to download free and exclusive tracks!
Why would you give away your music for free?(Read the explanation
below)
In January of 1998 we played a show at a skate festival in Hutchinson
Kansas. A fan was in the crowd shooting footage of the show. I remember
saying over the microphone that we would love it if he were to bootleg
and distribute copies of the show. Afterwards he and a friend came
up to me and asked if I was serious. I was.
You see in early 96 and late 97 we were playing the OKC area pretty
heavily. The OKC scene readily accepted us with open arms and the
kids were hungry for ska music in those days. We played several
DIY shows at an American Legion and kids would video tape our performances.
We started to notice that the kids new the words to all of our songs...
including the ones we had never recorded. So, we learned early on that there
is truly alot of value in the bootlegging community.
A couple of days later I received an email from Shaughn Struble (one
of the guys at the Hutch show). He thought it would be a good idea for us
to start an mp3 web site. He had taken audio from the video he shot
and ripped it into MP3 format. To make a long story short we decided
to embark on a healthy MP3 endeavor and support this great format.
5 years and 37,000 downloads later we have kept up our end of the
bargain... along with our official releases we have released an additional
4 mp3 cds on MP3.com. We also offer our first two studio releases
free for download.
As always the only thing we ask is that you do not re-sell any of our
free music. You are, however, encouraged to share our music with as
many people as possible.
The majority of streamed tracks reside on our mp3 site, but there
are several exclusive downloads only available here on OPHIL.COM.
If you are new to the mp3 game... please visit the links provided
above for players and software to help you in your free music experience.
